Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does Baby Models work?

A. Applications are made every day on our site and we decide who are suitable to become registered models. Once we receive your application, we will respond within 24 hours. If successful, your baby will be offered a modelling contract for up to 3 years. You will then be given access to our website, where you can upload photographs directly to your online portfolio. This is where clients get to view your baby's look and where models are booked for assignments. Once a selection has been made, we negotiate fees with the clients and contact you with the full assignment details. It's that simple.

We have created one of the most successful modelling and promotional agencies, bringing together clients and models. Every day we are asked for models to appear in films, advertisements, catalogues, shows and events.

Q. Do you accept everyone who applies?

A. Appearing on the first page of many major search engines, we receive around 300-400 applications every week. We only accept around 7% of these applications. We only accept babies and toddlers who we believe have the highest possible chance of finding work.

Q. Does it matter where I live?

A. No. You can live anywhere in the UK as we have clients in England, Wales and Scotland. However the majority of work is primarily in England and in areas such as London, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle.

Q. Will we need to travel?

A. Travel is essential, but you can choose how far you wish to travel. This can be done on your application and your portfolio settings. We aim to find you work within your desired maximum travel distance, but depending on where you live this could mean travelling 30, 60, 100 miles, or more. The choice to accept assignments is totally down to you.

Q. How can I tell if I am joining a reputable agency?

A. Ask us to provide a list of clients or evidence of recent assignments. We are happy to discuss your interest and answer any questions that are important to you.

Q. Will we need professional photographs?

A. If successful, we will ask you to attend a test shoot at one of our studio's, where professional photographs will be taken for your portfolio. The photographer will take images specifically for your portfolio which and will help you choose the best ones to support your career as a model. You can use your own images, but we do insist that you provide images are of a high standard. So if you are not too good with a camera you are welcome to attend a test shoot at one of our studios in London, Manchester, Birmingham or Newcastle.

Q. How does the agency earn?

A. The agency earns commission on securing you work. We deduct just 18% commission from most completed assignments, apart from photographic work where we retain 35% to offset the 75 fee, which we no longer take for photographic only models

Q. Once my baby is registered, are they guaranteed work?

A. No agency can absolutely guarantee you work. If they do, think about joining another agency. Please be aware that it is always the client's decision as to the baby that is chosen. What we do guarantee is that we only take babies and toddlers onto our books who we feel can be placed successfully.

Q. What happens once my baby is accepted to model?

A. Once accepted, you can login to our website and upload photographs of your child to their profile. You can immediately book a test shoot at one of our studio's in London, Birmingham, Manchester or Newcastle. The shoot will last around 2-3 hours and we will discuss in detail how to stand out in the industry. Your child will be put forward for all suitable opportunities, based on briefs sent to us by our clients.

Q. How can I help my child get work?

A. In order to maintain your child's chances of getting a work assignment; it is really important that you reply to all emails that are sent regarding assignments. If you choose to use your own photographs, we ask that you update them every 2-3 months, or when you feel your child has altered in appearance. To increase your chances of work, we recommend you attend a test shoot to have some professional photographs taken.

Q. How will I know when a client is interested in my child?

A. The agency will contact you by telephone and e-mail to provide you with the details of your booking. Please note that the agency will contact you only when we have a definite booking for you. The agency is simply too busy to contact models if a client has only expressed an interest in the model or if the agency is in the negotiation stage of the booking.

Q. Can you tell me how many jobs I can expect to receive?

A. This is an impossible question to answer as each model's work rate is reliant upon many different factors. Some models "hit it off" quicker than others and seem to secure most jobs for which they are auditioned. Others take a little longer to warm up and yet once they do there is sometimes no stopping them. Models with professional portfolio's do receive more work that ones with home photography, but always remember some of our biggest "stars" are just normal children having fun and enjoying themselves.

Q. How much can I earn?

A. Jobs can pay anything between £200-£500 for a 4 hour photo-shoot to over a thousand pounds for a high profile advertising campaign. The budget for each job will be e-mailed to you along with the booking confirmation.

Q. Who will take the photographs for my portfolio?

A. We do ask that models start out by using their own photographs. Once you're portfolio is up and running, we ask that you attend one of our test shoots in London, Birmingham, Manchester or Newcastle, as soon as possible, so we can take professional photographs for your portfolio. There is no obligation to attend, so if you wish to provide your own photographs, you can, but obtaining work can be more difficult.

Q. Can anyone access my portfolio?

A. Not at all. Only you can access the portfolio with the username and password from your application. Clients have a different login, where they can view all portfolios.

Q. What age groups do you represent?

A. We represent babies and toddlers from 3 months to approximately 3 years of age. If you Child is aged 3+, please apply at www.toddlermodels.co.uk

Q. When do auditions and jobs take place?

A. The majority of work takes place between Monday to Friday. It is important that you keep us up to date with your unavailability throughout the year. Occasionally clients will hold auditions or shoots at the weekend so bear that in mind when giving us your unavailability. Castings and photo shoots can sometimes be very short notice, so you will need to be as flexible as possible. The average notice period is around 1-2 weeks, varying from client to client.

Q. Why should I choose Baby Models?

A. We offer a professional, committed service and have many years experience in baby modelling. Unlike other agencies, we specialize primarily in baby modelling. We have new clients signing up every day and we are constantly working with new clients to assist them with their advertising needs. We have almost 10 years experience and are growing each and every year.

Q. Will my personal details be seen?

A. No. Only your basic information can be seen by clients, such as age, eye colour etc. Personal information is held by the agency and kept for contact purposes only.

Q. Can we work for other modelling agencies?

A. Yes, of course. The whole point of modelling is to work whenever you can. There are many models, successful included, that have more than one agent in place. Be seen as much as possible in the hope more people will notice your baby.

Q. Is there a joining fee?

A. As from 1st October 2010 agencies could no longer charge fees upfront. We do not charge representation fees, joining fees or upfront fees. All you need to pay is just £75, which includes adding your child to our model directory and covers the administration costs of finding them work, for TV, Film and commercials. If you would prefer your child to just be submitted for photographic modelling, this fee will be taken from your child's first earnings. This is in compliance with legislation which states that an upfront work finding service fee cannot be charged to those working as a photographic model only. The fee also includes any updates to your child's details throughout the year.

Q. What do I do now?

A. To apply, complete the online application on our website. We will then assess your application and you will receive a response from us within 24-48 hours. If the application is successful, you will receive confirmation to the e-mail address that you have provided. It is important to check your spam, especially if you have a hotmail account. If your application is declined, we will provide feedback.

The biggest mistake people make when deciding to become models, is not taking the next step. Baby Models are here to help you make that next step.
